1 Inch of Water Per Week
Frequency - 2 times per week for 30 mins or 3 times for 20 mins during the growing season (April-June). either from rain or irrigation. This 1 inch of water normally soaks the soil to a depth of 4-6 inches, which allows the water to reach deep into the root system
Our Rachio 3 Controllers offer a "Cycle and Soak" Option so you can water 7.5 mins on one zone and then pauses to let the water absorb into the ground, before continuing to water. This helps maximize saturation and avoid fertilizer and overseed run-off.
Early Morning is Best
Having your watering schedule set to finish before sunrise hydrates your lawn and prepares it for the heat of the day. Night watering leaves the grass moist for extended periods which can cause harmful diseases; and watering during the day leads to excessive evaporation and lowered efficiency.
Even Water Distribution
Irrigation is extremely effective at supplementing your lawn with even water distribution as needed. Running sprinklers for too long in one area or in the wrong direction can be very ineffective, which can lead to insects/weeds/diseases due to over/under watering certain areas. We design your irrigation system to maximize efficiency and eliminate wasted water.
Adjusting Watering Frequency
Adjust your watering schedules throughout the season, especially when the lawn is most actively growing. If weather conditions become increasingly dry, you may need to increase/decrease the frequency of your watering schedule to avoid over/under watering certain areas. This is easy to do in the app on your phone, and if you choose a Weather Intelligent controller it will make these changes for you.
